Environment

The Philippine archipelago of 7,000 islands is one of the richest ecosystems in the world. Population growth, urban pressure and depletion of natural resources, however, lead to a deterioration of the Philippine environment. The government has responded with a series of relatively modern and ambitious environmental legislation to protect the rainforest, the marine resources, pollution of air, water and waste treatment. However, it can enforce the rules often lagging behind.
A leading role in Southeast Asia, the Philippines seeking the use of renewable energies, climate protection and the conservation of biodiversity, especially marine biodiversity on. Even today they are the second largest producer of geothermal energy after the United States. Through the adoption of the Renewable Energy Bill in October 2008, the government hoped the newly installed capacity of 2500 MW based on renewable energies.
Germany is involved with the budget for technical and financial cooperation, particularly in the protection of natural resources, the construction of municipal infrastructure (water, waste), the industrial environmental protection, protection of biodiversity and climate and the development of renewable energies.
